Worth it?

An easy yes on any South Coast drive. It is about 1 hour 45 minutes from Reykjavik on the Ring Road, and the footpath lets you walk behind the 60-meter cascade, which is what most videos show. One creator goes as far as calling it the best waterfall in Iceland. In winter the paths turn slippery, so take care. The smaller Gljúfrabúi waterfall is nearby and easy to add.

Before you go

  • Walk the footpath behind the falls for the view from inside.
  • Visit Gljúfrabúi, the second waterfall nearby.
  • In winter, watch your footing on the slippery paths.
  • On a Golden Circle day, Gullfoss is another waterfall on the list.

Highlights

  • Walk behind the waterfall cascade
  • Located on the Ring Road
  • Nearby Gljúfrabúi waterfall
  • Slippery paths in winter
