Porto From TikTok: Sandwiches, Azulejos and the Douro

Two sandwiches lead the Porto posts. Cervejaria Gazela, the most posted place in the city, is a no-frills snack bar where creators call the cachorrinho the order, with a tip attached: skip the queue by going to its location across the street, which opens at 12:00. Casa Expresso, family-run since 1946, answers with the sandes de rojão, slow-cooked marinated pork in bread. Between meals, the videos stop at Livraria Lello, which needs a ticket to get in.

The 16 Porto places on MapDreamy mix four restaurants and three cafes with sights, shops and the riverside streets of Ribeira and Cais da Ribeira along the Douro. Prices sit mostly at moderate, with Gazela and Paraíso do Churrasco at the cheap end. Out in Foz, Praia da Luz is a restaurant and beach club with sea views where, one creator says, you can rent a bed for the day and eat to a DJ set.

Grills and cured ham on Rua do Heroísmo

Two of the Porto places sit on Rua do Heroísmo. Paraíso do Churrasco is a small, informal grill doing chicken, picanha and pork ribs over charcoal, with tripas à moda do Porto on Thursdays. Its post adds the practical part: cash only and closed on Sundays, and the record warns of limited seating and crowds at peak hours. Further along at number 191, O Xico dos Presuntos is a bar for Portuguese cured hams and tapas, with a casual, local feel.

Coffee, brunch and tea

EARLY Cedofeita bakes its own bread and runs brunch by day; a creator recommends the salmon plate and the egg breakfast, and in the evening the space switches to sourdough pizza and natural wine under the name LATER. Mila, in a renovated building on Rua do Bonjardim, makes natural-fermentation bread and croissants with Belgian butter, plus a daily lunch with global influences. Gonji Tea pours Chinese loose-leaf tea brewed the traditional way, but its post is about the wontons, which it calls excellent.

Tiles, bridges and the riverside

Porto's blue-and-white azulejos get two stops. São Bento station has more than 20,000 hand-painted tiles showing scenes of Portuguese history, and Capela das Almas on Rua de Santa Catarina is covered outside in 1929 tiles of Saint Francis and Saint Catherine. Down at the river, Ribeira's medieval houses face the Luís I bridge, whose upper deck is a pedestrian walkway across to Vila Nova de Gaia. For a slower view of the Douro, the Jardins do Palácio de Cristal have roaming peacocks and river panoramas, and Tuwaterra on Rua do Barão de Forrester sells handmade ceramics.

Good to know

From the posts: the cachorrinho at Cervejaria Gazela, the sandes de rojão at Casa Expresso, charcoal-grilled chicken at Paraíso do Churrasco, cured ham at O Xico dos Presuntos, and the salmon plate at EARLY Cedofeita for brunch. Paraíso do Churrasco also serves tripas à moda do Porto, but only on Thursdays.
