Berlin Sights From TikTok: Domes, Bridges and the Berlin Wall

Six of these seven Berlin sights come from a single summer video of the city's classics: the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag, the Berliner Dom, the TV tower, Oberbaumbrücke and the Berlin Wall memorial on Bernauer Straße. The seventh is a different kind of trip, DARK MATTER in Lichtenberg, a set of pitch-black rooms with light installations by Christopher Bauder.

Four of the seven are free: the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag, Oberbaumbrücke and the Wall memorial. The Berliner Dom is moderate, DARK MATTER tickets start at 16 euros, and the Berliner Fernsehturm is priced as expensive. Three of them get you above the city, which is useful to know if you only have time for one view.

Where creators go

  1. Reichstag BuildingArchitectural Landmark

The Reichstag is the seat of the German parliament, topped with a glass dome by Norman Foster that you can walk up for views over the city. Inside, Soviet-era graffiti from 1945 is preserved, and the facade carries the inscription Dem deutschen Volke. It is free and fully accessible, and the Käfer restaurant sits on the roof.

  2. Brandenburg GateMonument

The Brandenburg Gate stands on Pariser Platz, a triumphal arch that has become Berlin's symbol of unity. It is free and open 24 hours, so you can visit at any hour. The Reichstag is close by, and most people see the two together.

  3. Gedenkstätte Berliner MauerHistory Museum

The Berlin Wall memorial on Bernauer Straße keeps 220 meters of the original wall at the site where the city was divided. There is a permanent exhibition, 1961 | 1989. The Berlin Wall, the Chapel of Reconciliation, and a documentation center with film and audio archives. It is free, somber, and worth unhurried time.

  4. OberbaumbrückeBridge

Oberbaumbrücke is a red-brick, neo-Gothic double-deck bridge over the Spree, linking Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg. It was once a border crossing between East and West Berlin. From it you get views of the river and skyline, and an Open Air Gallery art event takes place there each year.

  5. Berliner DomChurch

The Berliner Dom on the Lustgarten is a Neo-Renaissance cathedral that works as a church, concert venue and museum. Inside are the Hohenzollern family crypt and a 1905 Sauer organ, and a walkway around the dome gives panoramic views. Last admission is one hour before closing, so do not leave it to the end of the day.

  6. DARK MATTER BerlinContemporary Gallery

DARK MATTER on Köpenicker Chaussee in Lichtenberg is a set of seven permanent light and media installations by Christopher Bauder in pitch-black rooms. Works like Tone Ladder and Polygon Playground are interactive, and the creator note mentions immersive soundscapes paired with kinetic light. Tickets start at 16 euros.

  7. Berliner FernsehturmObservation Deck

The Fernsehturm, Berlin's TV tower on Panoramastraße, has an observation deck and a revolving restaurant with views across the city. It is the most expensive stop on this page, so it makes sense if a view from the highest point matters more to you than the free alternatives.

Three ways to see Berlin from above

The Reichstag dome is free. The Berliner Dom, priced as moderate, has a panoramic walkway around its dome. The Fernsehturm deck is the highest and the priciest, with a revolving restaurant if you want to eat up there.

Where the city was divided

Two places deal with the divided city. The memorial on Bernauer Straße preserves a stretch of the actual wall with an exhibition and archive. Oberbaumbrücke was a border crossing between East and West, and today it is simply a bridge between Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg.

Good to know

The Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag Building, Oberbaumbrücke and the Berlin Wall memorial on Bernauer Straße are free. The gate is accessible 24 hours, and the Reichstag dome is fully accessible for visitors with disabilities. The Berliner Dom, DARK MATTER and the Fernsehturm charge entry.
