Germany's Sights and Museums on TikTok: Berlin, Munich and More

Berlin and Munich supply almost all of this list, and they come across very differently. The Berlin places mostly come from one summer city reel and are the classic landmarks: the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag with its glass dome, the Wall memorial on Bernauer Straße, the TV tower. Munich's eight are more eclectic, from a luxury cinema serving pretzels at your seat to a VR ball pit and a toy museum in the Old Town Hall tower.

Outside the two cities there are just two entries: Neuschwanstein Castle in the Bavarian Alps, the only place here posted twice, and the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart. Prices range widely. Eight places are free, including BMW Welt, Lothringer 13 and the Brandenburg Gate, while the Fernsehturm and the ASTOR cinema carry an expensive price level.

Where creators go

  1. Neuschwanstein CastleCastle · Schwangau

King Ludwig II's 19th-century palace above a gorge near Schwangau, and the most posted sight on this page. One creator frames a post around a single best tip for visiting; another simply calls it a legendary view. Panoramic views of it come from the Marienbrücke. The interior is only open on guided tours, and booking tickets online in advance is recommended.

  2. Reichstag BuildingArchitectural Landmark · Berlin

The seat of the German parliament in Berlin, crowned by Norman Foster's glass dome, which you can climb for views over the city. Inside, Soviet graffiti from 1945 has been preserved, and the 'Dem deutschen Volke' inscription is part of the visit. It is free, fully accessible, and has a rooftop restaurant, Käfer Dachgarten. It sits near the Brandenburg Gate, which makes the two an easy pairing.

  3. Gedenkstätte Berliner MauerHistory Museum · Berlin

The Berlin Wall memorial on Bernauer Straße keeps 220 meters of the original Wall, along with the Chapel of Reconciliation and a documentation center with film and audio archives. The permanent exhibition, '1961 | 1989. The Berlin Wall', covers the years of division. It is free and somber, and the most direct history lesson on this list.

  4. DARK MATTER BerlinContemporary Gallery · Berlin

Seven permanent light and media installations by Christopher Bauder in pitch-black rooms out in Lichtenberg. The creator note singles out the soundscapes paired with kinetic light, and interactive pieces such as Tone Ladder and Polygon Playground invite you to play. Tickets start at €16. The post pitches it as a weekend plan with friends or a slightly romantic outing.

  5. ASTOR Film Lounge im ARRICinema · Munich

A cinema in Munich's Maxvorstadt, set in the historic ARRI building, with handmade red velvet recliners and service at your seat. The creator orders Brezn with Obazda, a cheese platter and cocktails, and mentions a free welcome drink on arrival. The post puts tickets at around €15 for adults, and the venue is marked expensive overall.

  6. Dream Rooms - Eine begehbare Traumwelt in MünchenCultural Landmark · Munich

An immersive exhibition in Munich's Neue Hopfenpost venue, with neon-lit rooms that each look different. The headline is a VR ball pit: you wear a headset while sitting in the balls. The visit takes about 60 to 90 minutes. The creator shares the code NOTFROMMUNICH for 10% off tickets, which may or may not still work when you go.

  7. Porsche MuseumHistory Museum · Stuttgart

Around 80 cars and 200 exhibits in Stuttgart, inside a building on V-shaped pillars that seems to float. The Ur-911 and the 917 race car are on show, and there is a workshop where classics are restored. The creator's angle is the museum's own escape game: groups of 2 to 5 solve puzzles through the halls, for 175€, which the post suggests as an autumn activity.

  8. BMW WeltCultural Landmark · Munich

BMW's glass and steel exhibition and delivery center next to the Olympic Park in Munich, free to enter. It shows BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce models and has places to eat and shop. The post that pins it was a sponsored one about a free exhibition gathering all 20 BMW Art Cars, so check what is on display before you go.

More sights and museums in Germany

Berlin's landmarks in one walk

Four more Berlin sights come from the same summer city reel as the Reichstag and the Wall memorial.

  • Brandenburg Gate: on Pariser Platz, free and open around the clock, a short walk from the Reichstag.
  • Berliner Dom: the cathedral on the Lustgarten, with the Hohenzollern crypt, a 1905 Sauer organ and a walkway around the dome. Last admission is one hour before closing.
  • Berliner Fernsehturm: the TV tower, with an observation deck and a revolving restaurant, and the priciest view in Berlin on this list.
  • Oberbaumbrücke: the red-brick double-deck bridge over the Spree between Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg, once a crossing between East and West Berlin.

Free and low-cost Munich

Several Munich sights cost little or nothing. Hackerbrücke, the riveted steel bridge over the tracks west of the main station, is a popular sunset photo spot. Theresienwiese is the 42-hectare Oktoberfest ground, with the Bavaria statue, and locals use it for recreation when no festival is on. Lothringer 13 Halle in Haidhausen shows experimental contemporary art for free, and the same creator's list of favorites includes the Kunstverein München in the Hofgarten arcades, founded in 1823. On Marienplatz, the Spielzeugmuseum München fills four floors of the Old Town Hall tower with dolls, trains and tin toys for €8.

Good to know

Neuschwanstein Castle is the only sight posted twice in this set, with one creator sharing a visiting tip and another filming the view. The rest each come from one post. In Berlin, most of the landmarks, including the Reichstag, the Brandenburg Gate and the Berliner Dom, come from one summer city reel.
