Barcelona Bars From TikTok: Tapas, Cava and Vermouth
Most Barcelona bars on this list are places to eat as much as drink. Nine of the 12 are tapas bars or old bodegas, where the order is house cava or vermouth with anchovies, conservas or a croquette, and only Monk and Dry Martini are cocktail bars in the strict sense. Bar Brutal stands apart as a natural wine bar. Creator scores out of ten turn up for three of them, a rare bit of grading.
The map is compact. Carrer de Montcada in El Born holds both Bar del Pla and El Xampanyet, and Bar Brutal on Carrer de la Princesa is in El Born too. Barceloneta has Can Paixano, Bodega l'Electricitat and La Cova Fumada, and the Gothic Quarter has Bodega del Vermut and Bar La Plata. Paco Meralgo, Candela en Rama and Dry Martini are the Eixample outliers. Can Paixano and Bar La Plata are the two cheap ones.

Where creators go
- Bar del Pla
Four mentions make Bar del Pla the most posted bar here. On Carrer de Montcada, it is a bodega-style tapas bar with marble counters and hydraulic tiles, serving Catalan and Spanish plates with modern twists and a long list of natural wines. Squid ink croquettes are the signature, one creator had their first patatas bravas in the city here, and another rated it 8.5 out of 10. Reservations are highly recommended.
- Can Paixano
A loud, standing-room-only tavern in Barceloneta, also known as La Xampanyeria, serving house cava rosado and grilled sausage bocadillos. It is cheap, fast and crowded, and there is a shop on site for cava and preserved goods. Creators call it one of the city's most iconic local spots and a personal favorite for cava and tapas.
- El Xampanyet
A family-run bar on the same street as Bar del Pla, with blue ceramic tiles and marble tables. House sparkling wine comes in glass coupes, which one creator priced at 2.90 euros, alongside Cantabrian anchovies and other conservas. There are no reservations, so expect queues and standing room; the tip is to arrive around opening time. It closes on Mondays and for all of August.
- Bodega l'Electricitat
A historic tavern in Barceloneta with modernist wrought-iron doors, original wine vats and an old ice fridge, listed as Architectural Heritage of Catalonia. The order is local vermouth with conservas, and there is a wide selection of jamón. One creator rated it 9 out of 10, the highest score anywhere in this set.
- Bar Brutal
A natural wine bar and restaurant on Carrer de la Princesa, pouring organic, biodynamic and no-added-sulfur wines, including experimental bottles under its own Brutal label. Seasonal small plates are made for sharing. It takes reservations for lunch and dinner, and well-behaved dogs are welcome. It is one of the stops on a long German food tour of the city.
- Monk Barcelona
A speakeasy hidden behind the front of a small convenience store on Carrer dels Abaixadors. Inside are neo-Gothic arches, dramatic light installations, cocktails named after artists and a DJ-led lounge. It shows up in the same long German food tour as Bar del Pla, El Xampanyet and Bar Brutal. Booking a table in advance is recommended.
- Bar La Plata
A cheap, minimal tapas bar in the Gothic Quarter, unchanged since 1945, with a menu of four classic dishes. Fried fish and anchovies are the signatures, wine pours from the barrel into a porró, and it is cash only with no reservations. The post notes that Anthony Bourdain came here for the fried fish.
- La Cova Fumada
A family-run bar in Barceloneta credited with inventing the bomba, the Barceloneta potato croquette. Grilled seafood and artichokes fill out the menu, the storefront in a former winery has no sign, payment is cash only, and the listing advises arriving early to avoid long queues. One creator's full list of Barcelona food spots names it for that origin story.

Vermouth and cava
Bodega del Vermut on Carrer de les Magdalenes in the Gothic Quarter is the vermouth specialist, a family-run room of wooden barrels and maritime touches pouring vermut de grifo with anchovies from L'Escala, olives and gildas. Pair it with Bodega l'Electricitat for a vermouth round. For cava, Can Paixano and El Xampanyet are the two houses creators return to, one rosado and loud, the other served in coupes.
Uptown in Eixample
Paco Meralgo on Carrer de Muntaner is a tavern for montaditos and fish from the daily auctions. The steak tartare montadito is the signature, one creator rated it 8 out of 10, and reservations are recommended. Candela en Rama beside the Sant Antoni Market cooks tapas over embers and changes its signature sandwich every month, while the steak tartar croissant and the sobrasada tortilla stay on.
For a classic cocktail, Dry Martini by Javier de las Muelas on Carrer d'Aribau has served dry martinis since 1978 in an English-style room of wood, leather and brass.
Good to know
Bar del Pla leads this set with four mentions, followed by Can Paixano and El Xampanyet with three each. Bar Brutal, Bodega del Vermut, Bodega l'Electricitat, Monk and Paco Meralgo have two. Most of them are in Ciutat Vella, within El Born, Barceloneta and the Gothic Quarter, so a crawl on foot is easy.
