Barcelona Tapas, Vermouth and Cava From TikTok

Most of the places creators post in Barcelona sit within a few streets of each other in El Born. Bar del Pla on Carrer de Montcada is the most posted, with four posts covering squid ink croquettes, patatas bravas and natural wine. El Xampanyet, further along the same street, pours house cava in glass coupes for €2.90, takes no reservations and is closed on Mondays and through August. Of the city's 50 places on the site, 27 are restaurants and 12 are bars.

Three more places have three posts each. Bar Pimentel on Carrer dels Carders is where creators order the poached egg with potato purée and pork cracklings, and one says to reserve. At Nardi | Taberna de mar, prawn croquetas and scallops are the highlights, and one creator says to get a seat at the bar to watch the cooking. Near the port in Barceloneta, Can Paixano is a loud, standing-room tavern for house rosé cava and sausage bocadillos.

Vermouth and old taverns

A handful of places are posted as much for their age as their food. Bar La Plata in the Gothic Quarter has kept the same four-dish menu since 1945, serves fried fish and anchovies, pours wine from the barrel into a porró and takes cash only. Bodega del Vermut on Carrer de les Magdalenes has vermouth on tap and anchovies from L'Escala. In Barceloneta, Bodega l'Electricitat keeps its original wine vats and is listed as Architectural Heritage of Catalonia; one creator rates it 9 out of 10. For something newer, Monk Barcelona is a cocktail bar hidden behind the front of a small convenience store.

Hot chocolate on Carrer de Petritxol

Granja Dulcinea and Granja La Pallaresa, two historic chocolate cafés, sit a few doors apart on this Gothic Quarter street. Dulcinea serves thick xocolata a la tassa and the suís, hot chocolate topped with whipped cream, with upstairs seating; arrive early to avoid the crowds. La Pallaresa does the same thick chocolate plus crema catalana, takes no reservations and recommends paying cash. Both are listed as cheap. In El Born, CAJÚ gelato makes fully plant-based scoops in house-made cones.

Eixample tables

Outside the old town, the posts move to the Eixample grid. La Paella de Su cooks Valencian paella with chicken, rabbit and beans from scratch, and reservations are recommended because of the cooking time. LomoAlto ages beef, veal and ox for up to 365 days. Bar Canyí on Carrer de Sepúlveda is walk-in only, with an oxtail and kimchi burger and an upstairs terrace. Bar Fischer offers a €15.50 lunch menu, and Paco Meralgo on Muntaner earns an 8 out of 10 from one creator for its creative small plates.

Good to know

Bar del Pla on Carrer de Montcada leads with four posts. El Xampanyet, Bar Pimentel, Nardi | Taberna de mar and Can Paixano follow with three each. All but Can Paixano, which is in Barceloneta, are in El Born, within walking distance of each other.
