Beaches and Lakes in Spain From TikTok: Coves, Surf and Mountain Lakes
Four places share the top spot here with four posts each: the islet of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe on the Basque coast, and three Mallorca stops from road trip videos, Sa Calobra, Cala Llombards and Caló des Moro. Mallorca's coves and the Basque surf beaches make up the coastal half of the page, with Lanzarote and Playa de Ses Illetes on the Es Trucadors peninsula adding the rest.
The other half is freshwater. Creators film glacial lakes in the Pyrenees and the Picos de Europa, waterfalls in the Val d'Aran and Navarre, and two swimming spots within about an hour and a half of Madrid. Nearly everything is free; the exceptions are Gaztelugatxe and the Lagos de Covadonga, listed as moderate, and Papagayo, where the listing mentions a small park entrance fee.

Where creators go
- San Juan de Gaztelugatxe
A rocky islet near Bermeo joined to the coast by a winding stone bridge, with 241 steps up to a hermitage. Entry is free, but creators stress that busy seasons need a timed reservation online, and that the walk from the parking area to the bridge takes a while. Go early or near sunset for thinner crowds. Game of Thrones fans know it as Dragonstone.
- Sa Calobra
A pebble cove in Mallorca at the mouth of the Torrent de Pareis gorge, ringed by limestone cliffs. Getting there is part of the story: one creator's tip is to drive the winding mountain road down to it. The listing adds the gorge walk and notes that it is popular with road cyclists.
- Cala Llombards
A small beach in Santanyí, Mallorca, with clear water and a Mediterranean beach bar, posted four times. The videos are road-trip stops rather than reviews, so there is little detail beyond the water and a quiet setting. It is free to access.
- Playa de La Concha
San Sebastián's city beach, curved around a shell-shaped bay with white railings along the promenade and Santa Clara Island offshore. Three creators include it in San Sebastián and northern Spain posts. The water is calm enough for swimming and paddleboarding, and the listing mentions a floating platform with slides in summer and assisted bathing.
- Playa de la Zurriola
San Sebastián's surf beach, 800 meters long between the Urumea River and Mount Ulía, with four surf schools and the Kursaal auditorium behind it. One creator's suggestion has nothing to do with surfing: buy a takeaway tortilla and eat it on the seawall at sunset. Expect a younger crowd, beach volleyball and boards.
- Playa de Itzurun
Zumaia's beach below 150-meter cliffs of striped flysch rock, the layers the creator dates to sixty million years. The right side gets busy, so the creator walks left to the smaller cove of Algorri under the cliffs. Low tide reveals a wide rock platform, and the San Telmo Hermitage sits above. Surfers and bodyboarders use it too.
- Lagos de Covadonga
Two glacial lakes, Enol and Ercina, high in the Picos de Europa above Cangas de Onís. The Asturias itinerary video describes mountain lakes surrounded by peaks and full of cows. In peak season access is regulated by shuttle bus, which is worth checking before you drive up. Listed as moderate, and the Pedro Pidal Visitor Centre is on site.
- Pantano de San Juan
A reservoir about 75 km, or an hour, from Madrid with 14 km of shoreline and pine forest around it. The creator calls it the city's closest beach escape, with sand and clear water. Swimming and motorized water sports are allowed, the Virgen de la Nueva beach has Blue Flag status, and you can rent boats and pedal boats.

Mountain lakes and waterfalls
A summer list for the Val d'Aran in the Pyrenees accounts for three entries. Bassa d'Arres is a small reservoir at 1,560 meters with stone picnic tables, views of the Aneto massif and a dirt track up from Arres de Sus. Cascada de Molières is a snowmelt waterfall on a 2 to 3 hour round-trip hike, and Estany Major de Saboredo is a glacial lake at 2,340 meters on the Carros de Foc circuit, suited to experienced hikers. In Navarre, Cascada de Iruerreka is an easier walk: about 4 miles and 2 hours round trip from near Camping Espinal.
Escapes from Madrid
Besides the Pantano de San Juan, the same post points to Las Presillas, three natural pools on the Lozoya River beneath Pico Peñalara, about 95 km or 1 hour 20 minutes from Madrid. There is parking and a large meadow, but no pets or glass are allowed.
More of Mallorca, Asturias and Lanzarote
- Cala Morlanda, Mallorca: a narrow rocky inlet with concrete steps into the water, used for snorkeling and cliff jumping.
- Gorg Blau, Mallorca: a deep blue reservoir in the Serra de Tramuntana with viewpoints along the Ma-10 road.
- Playa de Poo, Asturias: a funnel-shaped beach that turns into a calm saltwater pool at high tide, safe for children; Playa de Ballota, also near Llanes, has a blowhole and a steep, uneven path down.
- Playa de Papagayo, Lanzarote: white sand and calm water in Los Ajaches Natural Park, reached by dirt road or cliff path. Playa de Famara, by contrast, is a wild 3 km surf and kite beach under the Risco de Famara with no beach bars.
Good to know
San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, Sa Calobra, Cala Llombards and Caló des Moro each have four posts, the first on the Basque coast and the other three in Mallorca. Playa de La Concha in San Sebastián follows with three and Playa de la Zurriola with two.
