Bars in Spain From TikTok: Cava, Vermouth, Pintxos and Natural Wine

Twelve of the 36 bars on this page are in Barcelona, and nearly all of those sit in Ciutat Vella, a short walk from each other. Carrer de Montcada alone has Bar del Pla at number 2 and El Xampanyet at number 22. Madrid follows with 11, most of them wine bars, then San Sebastián with 7 pintxo counters. Valencia, Málaga, Ronda and a winery on Lanzarote complete the list.

The drinks say a lot about each bar. Barcelona's old taverns pour house cava, vermouth on tap and wine from a porró, while Antigua Casa de Guardia in Málaga serves sweet wines from the cask and chalks your tab on the bar top. Most places are listed as moderate. Five are cheap, including Can Paixano and El Lechuguita in Ronda, and only two, both in Valencia, are listed as expensive.

Where creators go

  1. Bar del PlaTapas Bar · Barcelona

The most posted bar in this set, with four mentions, on Carrer de Montcada in El Born. One creator had patatas bravas here for the first time in Barcelona and recommends them; another rated the place 8.5 out of 10. The listing points to squid ink croquettes and a natural and biodynamic wine list, and says reservations are highly recommended.

  2. El XampanyetTapas Bar · Barcelona

A family-run bar further up the same street, at number 22, that pours its house sparkling wine into glass coupes, priced at €2.90 in one creator's post. It takes no reservations, so expect a queue and standing room; the posts suggest arriving around opening time. Cantabrian anchovies and other conservas are the food. Closed on Mondays and for all of August.

  3. Can PaixanoTapas Bar · Barcelona

A loud tavern in Barceloneta with no seating to speak of and a cheap price tag. People come for the house cava rosado and grilled sausage bocadillos, and one creator calls it a favorite in Barcelona for cava and tapas. Expect a crowd and a fast pace. A shop on site sells cava and preserved goods to take home.

  4. Borda BerriTapas Bar · Donostia / San Sebastian

A pintxo bar on Fermin Calbeton Kalea in San Sebastián's Old Town that cooks hot dishes to order. One food guide post works through risotto, cod, pig's ear, beef cheek and a pork rib "kebab", and another creator singles out the beef cheek and the kebab as the standouts. A good stop for a pintxo crawl when you want something cooked fresh.

  5. La MejilloneraTapas Bar · Donostia / San Sebastian

Mussels and patatas bravas with a house sauce are the whole menu idea at this cheap, tiled bar on Portu Kalea in San Sebastián. A creator puts the mussels at €5.50 a plate and says the simple lemon version is the favorite. Orders get shouted across the room, and there is a bell to ring when you leave a tip.

  6. Antigua Casa de GuardiaWine Tasting Room · Málaga

A 19th-century tavern on Alameda Principal in Málaga where you stand at a long wooden bar and drink local wines drawn from barrels, Pedro Ximénez and Moscatel among them. One creator calls it a favorite stop in the city and suggests the house wines and sherries with a few of the seafood tapas, such as prawns or mussels.

  7. Alto BarTapas Bar · Madrid

A Madrid tapas bar on Plaza de la Puerta de Moros that mixes Spanish classics with Asian and South American influences. It made this list for one dish: a creator who says she has tried more than 50 tortillas in Madrid names its tortilla de patatas with caramelized onion as the best. She suggests a glass of wine with it, though that part is optional.

  8. Atenea SkyRooftop Bar · Valencia

The only rooftop bar here, on the eighth floor of the Ateneo Mercantil building in Valencia's Ciutat Vella. The video is about cocktails and a 360-degree view over the city, and its creator scored it 10 out of 10 for drinks, views and vibes. It is one of the two places in this set listed as expensive.

More bars in Spain

Barcelona's old taverns and newer bars

Beyond the picks, Barcelona leans old-school. Bodega del Vermut in the Gothic Quarter pours vermouth on tap with anchovies from L'Escala and gildas among wooden barrels. Bodega l'Electricitat in Barceloneta keeps its original wine vats and modernist iron doors, and one creator rated it 9 out of 10 for vermouth and atmosphere. Bar La Plata on Carrer de la Mercè sticks to four classic dishes built around fried fish, takes cash only and no bookings, and one post notes that Anthony Bourdain ate there.

The newer side of the city is just as close. Bar Brutal on Carrer de la Princesa focuses on natural, no-added-sulfur wines. Monk hides a cocktail bar behind a small convenience store, and Dry Martini on Carrer d'Aribau has made classic martinis since 1978. In Sant Antoni, Candela en Rama changes its signature sandwich every month, while one creator says the steak tartare croissant and sobrasada tortilla stay on.

Natural wine bars in Madrid

A single post about Madrid's wine bars accounts for four of the city's entries. Corchito near Antón Martín is small and candlelit, with natural wines from Spain, France and Italy. In La Latina, Fun Fun serves Spanish natural wines with plant-based plates, velvet stools and art on every wall. Gota on Calle de Prim comes from the Acid Café team, and Gastón on Calle de Lagasca is known for a staircase people like to photograph. For food first, Casa Canito in Salamanca serves a beef loin tonkatsu sandwich and hides a music club behind a vintage cigarette machine.

Valencia, Ronda and Lanzarote

  • Casa Montaña, Valencia: a tavern from 1836 with around 600 wines and salt-cod croquettes with pine nuts; reservations are recommended.
  • El Lechuguita, Ronda: more than 40 tapas, which one creator says cost €1.50 each; the listing suggests going off-peak to skip the line.
  • Bodega La Geria, Lanzarote: a winery from 1896 where vines grow in pits of volcanic ash, known for Malvasía Volcánica wines.
