Faroe Islands From TikTok: Cliffs, Falls and Villages

Both of the most posted Faroese places are on the island of Vágar, filed on MapDreamy under Miðvágur. Trælanípan, with 5 posts, is the 142-meter sea cliff where the lake Sørvágsvatn seems to hang above the ocean. Múlafossur Waterfall, with 4, drops 30 meters straight into the North Atlantic beside the tiny village of Gásadalur, a five-minute walk from the parking area.

A lot of what the videos show here costs money or needs a guide. The records list a mandatory hiking fee for the Sørvágsvatn trail, guided access only for the Drangarnir sea stacks, and a local guide plus a 60 EUR fee for Dunnesdrangar. Free sights exist too: Fossá, the Kallur Lighthouse walk on Kalsoy, and villages such as Gjógv and Tjørnuvík.

Vágar: the floating lake, sea stacks and grass roofs

Most of the posts come from Vágar, the island with the airport. The record for the Trælanípan walk also lists guided tours and the nearby Bøsdalafossur waterfall. Múlafossur is reached through a tunnel from Vágar Airport. Bøur is a farming village of black sod-roofed houses and an 1865 church, looking out to Tindhólmur and the Drangarnir stacks. Drangarnir itself, a pair of basalt stacks with an arch, is privately owned and can be visited only on a guided boat or hiking tour. Dunnesdrangar, 70-meter stacks on the west coast, is a 3 km moorland walk from Sørvágur, best from April to September.

Kalsoy, Eysturoy and Streymoy

On Kalsoy, a one-hour hike from Trøllanes leads to the Kallur Lighthouse on the island's northern cliffs, and the island's record notes a James Bond filming location. Gjógv, on Eysturoy, is named for the 200-meter sea gorge that serves as its harbor, with turf-roofed cottages and puffins nesting on the cliffs around it. Tjørnuvík on Streymoy has a black-sand beach facing the Risin and Kellingin sea stacks, surfing, and a hiking route to Saksun. Fossá near Haldarsvík, listed as the tallest waterfall in the islands at 140 meters, is free and reachable year-round, about 45 minutes by car from Tórshavn.

Good to know

For some of the sights in these posts, yes. Múlafossur, Fossá and the Kallur Lighthouse walk on Kalsoy are listed as free.
