Towns and Villages in the Faroe Islands From TikTok Creators

Faroese villages are small, and the posts treat each one as a single view. Gásadalur, the most filmed, is the waterfall dropping off a cliff into the North Atlantic. Bøur is black houses with grass roofs facing the sea stacks. Gjógv is a sea-filled gorge used as a harbor, and Tjørnuvík is a black-sand beach between mountains. Tórshavn, the capital, is the only place here that could be called a town.

Two entries are bigger than a village: the island of Kalsoy, filmed for its cliffs, and the Faroe Islands themselves, posted by creators struck by the lack of trees and the sense of reaching the end of the map. Three of the clips come from one creator's Faroe travel guide post. None of the records give prices, and the creators rarely add tips, so most of what follows comes from the listings.

Where creators go

  1. GásadalurTown · Miðvágur

A remote village on Vágar known for Múlafossur, the waterfall that falls from the cliff edge straight into the ocean, with Mykines island on the horizon. Old cliff paths lead around it, and a small cafe serves coffee and cakes. Two creators posted it, one adding only that they trust the locals here.

  2. BøurTown · Miðvágur

A small farming village on Vágar with black-painted, sod-roofed houses and a church from 1865. The view is the draw: the Drangarnir sea stacks and the islets of Tindhólmur and Gáshólmur offshore. The creator sums it up as a peaceful grass-roofed village looking toward Tindhólmur.

  3. GjógvTown · Gjógv

A village on Eysturoy named after its 200-meter gorge, which fills with sea and works as a natural harbor. Turf-roofed cottages, a 1929 church, cliff trails and puffin nesting sites nearby surround it. The creator describes it simply as a village built by the sea.

  4. TjørnuvíkTown · Tjørnuvík

A village on Streymoy set between steep mountains and a black-sand beach that faces the sea stacks Risin and Kellingin. There are Viking grave sites, a hiking route over to Saksun, and surfers use the bay. It appears in a creator's two-day Faroe itinerary.

  5. TórshavnCity · Tórshavn

The Faroese capital, a small harbor town named after Thor. The sights listed are Tinganes, the old parliament site; Skansin fort with its WWII history; the National Art Gallery; the black-tarred houses of the Old Town; and Viðarlundin park. It is the one entry with museums and a fort rather than a single view.

  6. KalsoyRegion · Fuglafjørður

A long, steep island of cliffs and narrow valleys, its villages linked by tunnels. The trek to the Kallur Lighthouse is the main reason people go, and the listing notes it was a James Bond filming location. The creator's caption is one word, vinland, over the footage.

Village by island

Grouping the villages by island makes route planning simpler, since the islands are linked by roads, tunnels and ferries.

  • Vágar: Gásadalur and Bøur, with views of Mykines, the islets and the sea stacks
  • Streymoy: Tórshavn and Tjørnuvík
  • Eysturoy: Gjógv and its gorge harbor
  • Kalsoy: the island itself and the Kallur Lighthouse trail

Good to know

Gásadalur on Vágar has the most posts in this set, thanks to the Múlafossur waterfall that drops into the ocean. Creators also film Bøur with its sod-roofed houses, Gjógv and its sea-filled gorge harbor, and Tjørnuvík, a black-sand beach village facing the Risin and Kellingin sea stacks.
