Milan's Municipio 8 on TikTok: Paolo Sarpi and CityLife

Six of the eight places in Milan's Municipio 8 are on one street. Via Paolo Sarpi, the main street of the city's Chinatown, is where creators snack their way from Korean to Chinese to Japanese food: tteokbokki under melted cheese at Ajumma Tteokbokki, matcha gelato wrapped in mochi at Matcha House, pistachio mochi at MochiMochi. Prices are cheap to moderate, and much of it is street food or grab-and-go.

The other two places are a change of scale. Arco della Pace is a neoclassical triumphal arch at the edge of Parco Sempione, and CityLife is a newer district with towers by Zaha Hadid and Daniel Libeskind, a park and an open-air art trail. The food posts are short and candid, down to a warning that the tteokbokki is milder than expected.

Savory snacks on Via Paolo Sarpi

Ajumma Tteokbokki, a cheap street food counter at number 41, tops its rice cakes with melted cheese; the creator warns the dish may be less spicy than you expect. At number 2, Hangzhou Xiaolongbao sells a combo cup of fried dumplings and a drink that one post calls a unique, convenient snack, and it also does take-out and delivery. Mini Kombini at number 30 is a Japanese-style convenience store with fresh onigiri and Japanese pastries, and the egg salad sandwich is the order in its post.

Mochi, matcha and pastry

Matcha House at number 9 serves matcha gelato at several intensity levels, matcha tiramisu and the dessert in the videos, gelato wrapped in a mochi skin. MochiMochi at number 12 makes its mochi entirely by hand; the creator's pick is pistachio with a crunchy pistachio-chocolate topping, and strawberry, mango and sesame fillings are on offer too. At number 1, S'labo mixes French pastry technique with Japanese milk bread and Chinese flavors, from black sesame and azuki braided buns to rice-flour canelé, and is often crowded with local teenagers. Its Japanese cheesecake is fluffy, its post says, if a little dry.

Arco della Pace and CityLife

Arco della Pace, designed by Luigi Cagnola, stands at the entrance to Parco Sempione and marks the start of the historic Corso Sempione, with bronze sculptures and bas-reliefs. It is free to see. CityLife is a pedestrian-friendly district built around a large public park with running and cycling paths, the ArtLine open-air museum and the CityLife Shopping District, and its design is LEED Platinum certified.
