Italy From TikTok: Lake Como, Sardinia and Bologna

The most posted place in MapDreamy's Italy set is a villa you cannot just walk into. Villa del Balbianello on Lake Como has 7 posts, and its record says online pre-booking is mandatory, with access by a woodland walk or a taxi-boat from Lenno. Second, with 6, is Cala Goloritzé in Sardinia: a limestone cove with a 143-meter pinnacle, a 3.6 km hike from the Golgo Plateau and a cap of 250 visitors a day.

By city, Bologna has the most entries with 34 and Milan has 21. The most posted places, though, are out of town: Lake Como villas and gardens, Sardinian beaches where a reservation decides whether you get on the sand, and mountains in the north, from Seceda and the Alpe di Siusi to an adults-only resort in Vermiglio where one creator has breakfast with alpacas.

Lake Como villas and gardens

Most Lake Como entries are grouped on the Mandello del Lario page, though they sit around the lake in Varenna, Bellagio, Tremezzo and Tremezzina. In Varenna, Villa Monastero has a two-kilometer lakefront garden, and one creator prefers it to nearby villas for its views and architecture. Hotel Villa Cipressi has multi-level botanical gardens, but a note warns that areas can close for weddings and it gets crowded at peak hours. Villa Melzi's gardens in Bellagio open from late March to late October. In Como itself, the cathedral is free to enter, with a modest dress code.

Sardinian beaches with rules

Sardinia's posts come with booking rules. Cala Goloritzé needs a reservation and caps visitors at 250 a day. Cala Mariolu, a cove of tiny white and pink pebbles, is reached only by boat or a hard hike, and boat landings must be booked ahead. Spiaggia La Pelosa in Stintino needs an online reservation in summer and takes 1,500 visitors a day. There you lay a mat under your towel and rinse off at the showers before leaving, both to protect the fine white sand.

Milan and Bologna food stops

In Milan, Bar Luce inside Fondazione Prada was designed by Wes Anderson, with pastel Formica furniture and vintage pinball machines, and you can go in without a museum ticket. Bar Picchio, a 1969 bar in Porta Venezia, pours spritz for 3.50€ by one creator's count. On Via Paolo Sarpi, Ajumma Tteokbokki serves its rice cakes with melted cheese, though a creator found them less spicy than expected. In Bologna, Cremeria Cavour is known for the Alice flavor, mascarpone with liquid chocolate. Out in San Giovanni in Persiceto, Antica Osteria del Mirasole is posted for tortellini in cream and tiramisu served in an espresso cup.

Good to know

Villa del Balbianello requires online pre-booking. Cala Goloritzé requires a reservation, Spiaggia La Pelosa requires one in summer, and boat landings at Cala Mariolu must be booked. In Rome, advance tickets are recommended for the Basilica di Santa Maria ad Martyres, the Pantheon, with its oculus and the tomb of Raphael.
