Tobago From Scarborough: Beaches, Islands and Hikes

The places saved under Scarborough spread across the whole island of Tobago. The most posted is Pigeon Point Heritage Park, with its white sand and thatched jetty, which one creator ranks among the world's most beautiful beaches. In Scarborough itself there is Fort King George, the best-preserved fort on the island. Further out are a forest waterfall at Castara, a hard hike above Store Bay and two small islands off Speyside.

Almost everything is free. Pigeon Point is the only entry with a charge, priced as cheap, and it is also the one with the most facilities: restaurants, bars, shops and water sports. Creator tips elsewhere are brief and practical: the Jesus Hill climb is hard, and drone pilots should take care at Castara.

Beaches and the west coast

Pigeon Point covers 125 acres with Main, North and South beaches, glass-bottom boat tours to Buccoo Reef, kiteboarding and kayaking. Mount Irvine Bay Resort, on Grafton Road at Mount Irvine, is a resort hotel with garden cottages, an 18-hole golf course and direct access to Mount Irvine Bay beach. With views over Store Bay, Jesus Hill is a steep ridge loop through farmland; the creator says it is challenging and not easy, but the view from the top makes up for it.

Waterfall, fort and offshore islands

Castara Waterfall is a small fall with a clear, shallow pool, reached on a forest trail about 0.6 miles from Castara Villas, with guided walks available. The creator's one warning is to be careful if you fly a drone. Fort King George has cannons and batteries from the 1770s, a museum and wide coastal views. Off Speyside, Little Tobago is a seabird sanctuary for red-billed tropicbirds, reached by glass-bottomed boat, and Goat Island next to it was once Ian Fleming's retreat.

Good to know

Swim from the Main, North and South beaches, walk out on the thatched-roof jetty, take a glass-bottom boat to Buccoo Reef, or try kiteboarding and kayaking. The 125-acre park has restaurants, bars and shops, and entry is priced as cheap. It has the most posts of any place in this part of Tobago.
