Mexico City Bars From TikTok: Speakeasies, Rooftops and Pulque
Roma Norte is the center of gravity for Mexico City's bars in these posts. Six of the 11 places are there, from canned cocktails at Bar Latosa on Calle Tonalá to a rooftop above Paramo on Avenida Yucatán. Juárez adds two more, and the rest are spread between Colonia Centro, Doctores and Cuauhtémoc. Six bars come from one roundup that singled out striking architecture, designed interiors and creative cocktails.
The styles range widely. There are speakeasies with themed rooms, a listening bar that plays only vinyl, and Pulquería Las Duelistas, the one cheap option, which serves pulque, a fermented agave drink. Three are priced as expensive: El Desconocido, Hanky Panky and Tokyo Music Bar. Several listings recommend booking, and Arena México, also on this page, is a lucha libre arena rather than a bar.

Where creators go
- Hanky Panky Cocktail Bar
Hanky Panky on Calle Turín in Juárez is a speakeasy-style bar with a hidden entrance, travel-themed cocktail menus and local ingredients. Its listing notes a place on North America's 50 Best Bars. It came from a roundup of the city's best designed bars, and reservations are recommended, so book ahead rather than hoping to walk in.
- Brujas
Brujas has an all-female staff and a cocktail menu presented as a comic book, with drinks based on Mexican herbalism and named for women from history. It sits inside the Casa de las Brujas building on Plaza Río de Janeiro in Roma Norte, a moody, intimate space. Reservations are highly recommended.
- Tokyo Music Bar
A listening bar on Río Pánuco built around a high-fidelity analog sound system that plays only from its vinyl collection. Drinks lean on Japanese whisky and sake cocktails, and the room is minimal, with emerald walls and gold accents. It is priced as expensive and suits a small group that wants to listen more than talk.
- El Desconocido
El Desconocido on Calle Orizaba is a themed speakeasy in Roma Norte spread across several rooms, including the Salón Rojo and Salón Verde. There is a vinyl listening room and on-site tarot readings, and the lighting stays low throughout. It is one of the three expensive bars on this page.
- Salón Palomilla
Salón Palomilla is a rooftop bar above Paramo restaurant on Avenida Yucatán, with jewel-toned decor and an open roof. The listing highlights a Negroni sbagliato and a mezcal menu, plus Mediterranean-inspired food. DJ sets and music nights run here, and reservations are recommended.
- Pulquería Las Duelistas
For something older than cocktails, Pulquería Las Duelistas on Calle Aranda in Colonia Centro serves pulque, the fermented agave drink one creator says dates back over 2,000 years. The creator's order is a flavored curado and a spicy bowl of lentil soup. It is the only bar on this list priced as cheap.
- Bar Latosa
Bar Latosa on Calle Tonalá serves its signature cocktails in cans, with a classic bar in the back for anyone who wants a poured drink. The space is designed to make you stay, and there is a short list of curated snacks. Another Roma Norte pick from the roundup of design-led bars.
- RUIDO
RUIDO on Calle Havre in Juárez is a gastrobar with a giant robot sculpture inside, a vinyl selection and classic cocktails and wine. The upstairs seating area is more intimate than the main floor. It also serves brunch on Saturdays, so it works in daylight too.

Rooftops in Roma Norte
Two rooftops made the list, both in Roma Norte. Salón Palomilla is the one with mezcal and DJ sets. The other is DACOPA at Avenida Álvaro Obregón 190, which pours draft cocktails with warm finger food on a terrace built around a retrofuturistic portal, with a curated sound system.
Beyond cocktail bars
Not everything here is a cocktail bar. La 89 on Calle Colima is a casual neighborhood bar open until midnight, and the post about it is really about food: charcoal-grilled birria with Baja soul, with the birria tacos singled out as the best. Arena México in Doctores hosts lucha libre with masked heroes and villains, traditional snacks like cueritos and chicharrones, and Friday shows that its listing says to book in advance.
Good to know
Each bar in this set has one post. Six come from a single roundup of bars with striking design: Bar Latosa, DACOPA, El Desconocido, Hanky Panky, RUIDO and Salón Palomilla. Brujas and Tokyo Music Bar appear in a creator's list of non-negotiables for the city, and Pulquería Las Duelistas has a post of its own about pulque.
