How to Organize Saved Travel Places: One Map, Collections, One Habit
To organize hundreds of saved travel places, move them onto one map, sort them into collections by city and by theme, and use filters for category, city or country when you need a quick answer. Then keep it tidy with one habit: send a new place to the map the moment you see it, not later.
Most people's saves are spread across four apps: TikTok Favorites, Instagram Saved, a screenshots album and a notes file called 'places'. None of them talk to each other, which is why the list never gets used when the trip comes.

Get everything into one place
Pick one home for places. A map beats a list, because most travel decisions come down to what is nearby. Then empty the other inboxes one source at a time:
- TikTok Favorites: share each place video to MapDreamy, or paste the link in the Add tab.
- Instagram Saved: do the same with each reel or post.
- YouTube Shorts: same again.
- Screenshots and notes: add the place by name or address, or describe it if you only half remember it.
Clear the backlog one trip at a time
Do not try to import five years of saves in one sitting. Start with the next trip's city, then work backward when you have ten spare minutes. MapDreamy picks up every place in a list video, so compilations clear fastest. The free plan keeps 3 imported posts, so a big backlog needs Pro; the map, search and Discover stay free.
Collections by city and by theme
Two kinds of collection cover most needs.
- City collections: 'Lisbon', 'Mexico City', 'Seoul'. These answer the question you ask before every trip: what did I save here?
- Theme collections: 'Tokyo eats', 'weekend hikes', rainy day ideas, a bucket list for places you want to see someday.
Keep collections few and obvious
Short, plain names are easier to scan than clever ones. If you find yourself with dozens of theme collections, some of them are probably better handled by filters.
Filter instead of over-sorting
Filters do the work people try to do with endless folders. Filter by category to see only restaurants, by city when you arrive somewhere, by country when you are planning a route through several cities. Each saved place carries a category icon, so the map stays readable even when it is full.
The one-tap habit
The backlog exists because saving to the map felt like a separate chore. Make it the same motion as saving: when a video shows a place you want to go, share it straight to MapDreamy instead of tapping the bookmark. It takes about as long, and the place arrives with its name, address, a description and the original post, so future you knows why it is there.
Fill the gaps with Discover before a trip
Open your city collection a few weeks before you go. If it is thin, or all restaurants and no views, browse Discover, a feed of real places from real videos in the app, and save what fits in one tap. The public pages at mapdreamy.com/places also group places creators post about by country and city. When the collection looks right, turn it into an itinerary.
A five-minute monthly check
- Make sure every new pin sits in at least one city or theme collection.
- Skim the bucket list and move one item toward a real trip.
- Filter by a country you might visit next year and see what is already there.
MapDreamy is free on iPhone and Android.
Questions
Put every place on one map, then group them two ways: a collection per city and a few by theme. Use filters for category, city or country instead of making a folder for every idea, and save new places to the map as soon as you see them.
