How to Save Places From Instagram Reels and Find Them Again
Instagram's Saved tab keeps reels, not places, so finding a saved restaurant again by city means getting it onto a map. You can do that by hand with the reel's location tag and a maps app, or share the reel to MapDreamy, which finds the place and pins it for you.
For most people, Saved is a long scroll of food, beaches and apartment tours in the order the bookmark was tapped. That holds up until you land in a city and want only the places you saved there.

How Instagram Saved and collections work
Tap the bookmark under a post or reel and it goes to Saved, which you open from your profile. You can create collections, such as 'Paris' or 'Coffee', and file saves into them. As a travel list, it has gaps:
- Collections hold posts, not places. Nothing shows which saves are near each other.
- Filing is manual. Most people tap the bookmark and scroll on, so 'All posts' grows and the collections stay half empty.
- If a creator deletes a reel, it disappears from your Saved as well.
- There is no way to filter saves by city or by type of place.
Use the location tag when there is one
Many reels carry a location tag above the caption. Tap it to open the location's page, which shows other posts tagged there and often the address or area. Search that name in your maps app and save it to a list for the city.
Tags are optional, though. Creators often tag the city instead of the café, or skip the tag and put the name in the caption, in on-screen text or nowhere at all. A post can only carry one location, so a reel covering six spots tags one of them at most. For untagged reels, the clues in finding where a video was filmed apply to Instagram too.
Share a reel to MapDreamy
MapDreamy skips the lookup. It reads the post, including the video, works out the place and pins it on your own map.
- On the reel, tap the paper plane icon and choose MapDreamy from the share options. If it is not listed, copy the link instead.
- With a copied link, open MapDreamy, go to the Add tab and paste it.
- The place appears as a pin with its name, address, a description, highlights and the reel itself.
- A reel that walks through several spots gives you each one as its own pin.
When the reel gives too little to go on
Some reels are just a plate of pasta and a song. If MapDreamy cannot find the place, add it by describing it (a name, a vibe, half a memory) or by its address. It lands on the same map as everything else, with the category icon that matches what it is.
Sort saved places into collections by city or theme
Once your saves are pins, collections become useful because they mirror how you will use them on a trip. Two kinds work well side by side:
- By city: 'Paris', 'Mexico City', 'Seoul'. Open one before you go and see everything you saved there on the map.
- By theme: 'Date night', 'Tokyo eats', rooftop bars, a bucket list of places you want to see one day.
Filters cover the rest
You can also filter the whole map by category, city or country. That handles most of what people try to do with dozens of Instagram collections: show me only cafés, only Lisbon, only Japan. There is more on setting up a system in organizing saved travel places.
Keep Instagram for inspiration, the map for the trip
None of this means giving up the Saved tab. Keep bookmarking outfits, recipes and anything that is not a place. For spots you actually want to go to, share them to the map at the moment you find them. MapDreamy is free to download on iPhone and Android; the free plan keeps 3 imported posts and Pro removes the limit.

Questions
Not inside Instagram. Saved and its collections are lists of posts. To see the places on a map, add them to a maps app yourself or share the reels to MapDreamy, which pins each place on your own map with the reel attached.
