How to Save Places From TikTok to a Map

To save places from TikTok to a map, either look up each place yourself and save it to a Google Maps list, or share the video to an app like MapDreamy that finds the place in the post and pins it for you. The manual route is free and fine for a handful of spots; the automatic route keeps the video attached and holds up when you have hundreds.

Saving is not the hard part. TikTok makes that one tap. The hard part is finding the video again months later, standing on a street in Lisbon, with no idea which of your 400 bookmarks was the bakery near the tram stop.

Why TikTok Favorites get lost

Tapping the bookmark icon adds a video to Favorites, and you can sort Favorites into collections. That works for recipes and jokes. For places it falls short in three ways:

  • No location: a favorite is a video, not an address. If the creator did not tag the place or say its name, you have to rewatch to work it out.
  • No map: Favorites are a grid of thumbnails in the order you saved them, so you cannot see what is close to where you are.
  • Hard to search later: you remember the croissant, not the account that posted it or the week you saw it.

Screenshots and notes are not much better

Screenshots end up in the camera roll between receipts and photos of parking spots, and the link back to the video is gone. A notes file of place names is searchable but has no map and no context, so 'Café Lua' means nothing three months on.

The manual method: Google Maps lists

This is what most people do, and for a short trip it is enough.

  • Find the place name in the video: the location tag, the caption, on-screen text or the comments.
  • Search that name in Google Maps and check the address matches what the video shows, since chains and similar names catch people out.
  • Tap Save and add it to a list named after the city, for example 'Lisbon'.
  • Paste the TikTok link into the note on that saved place so you can rewatch it later.

Where the manual method breaks down

It costs a few minutes per place, more when the name only comes up in a voiceover. A video that runs through five cafés means repeating every step five times. If you are stuck on the name, the guide on finding where a TikTok was filmed walks through the clues to check.

The automatic method with MapDreamy

MapDreamy is a free iPhone and Android app built for this job. It reads the post, including the video, finds the place and pins it on your own map.

  • In TikTok, tap Share on the video and pick MapDreamy from the share sheet.
  • Or copy the link, open MapDreamy, go to the Add tab and paste it into 'Paste a TikTok, IG or YouTube link'.
  • MapDreamy finds the place and drops the pin.
  • Later, open the pin and tap through to Google Maps for directions.

What you get for each place

The attached post matters more than it sounds. When you are choosing between two dinner spots, rewatching the 20 seconds that made you save each one settles it quickly.

  • Name and address, plus coordinates
  • A short description and highlights
  • A category icon, so restaurants and viewpoints look different on the map
  • The original TikTok, attached to the pin

Videos that show several places

Plenty of travel TikToks are lists: five cafés in Seoul, everything someone ate in Mexico City. MapDreamy picks up each place in the post and tells you how many it found ('3 places from this post'), so one share can put a whole list on the map.

If it misses a spot or lands on the wrong branch, add the place yourself by describing it (a name, a vibe, half a memory) or by typing the address.

What the free plan covers

MapDreamy is free to download, and Discover, search and the map are free. The free plan keeps 3 imported posts; Pro removes that limit. If you only need a few places for one weekend, the free plan or a Google Maps list may be all you need. Once the pins are in, turning them into an itinerary is the next step.

MapDreamy is free on iPhone and Android.

Questions

Not in one step. TikTok has no button that sends a place to Google Maps, so you find the name in the video, search it and save it to a list yourself. An app like MapDreamy shortens this: share the TikTok to it, it pins the place, and the pin opens in Google Maps for directions.
