Worth it?

Worth the scramble for confident walkers, less so for anyone unsteady on their feet. The descent takes 10 to 15 minutes and is steep, and there are no facilities at the bottom. What you get is a narrow cove of turquoise water between limestone cliffs, with excellent snorkeling and, according to one creator, local goats wandering around. Swimmers who travel light will enjoy it most.

Before you go

  • Bring water and supplies; there is nothing to buy at the cove.
  • Wear shoes with grip for the steep path.
  • Pack a mask for the snorkeling, which is known for clear visibility.
  • Back in town, Bougatsa Iordanis is on the Chania list for breakfast.

Highlights

  • Electric blue-green water
  • Dramatic limestone cliff scenery
  • Excellent snorkeling visibility
  • Requires a 10-15 minute steep hike
  • No facilities; bring water and supplies
