Chania From TikTok: Bougatsa, Harbor Tables, Seitan Limania

Breakfast in Chania, judging by the videos, happens at Bougatsa Iordanis. It is the most posted place in the city, a bougatsa shop running since 1922 with only two items on the menu. Creators say to order both with a traditional frappe, to plan around a line that gets huge by 8 AM, and to watch the staff stretch the filo by hand. From there the posts drift down to the harbor of Old Town Chania for sunset.

Thirteen of the 20 Chania places on MapDreamy are restaurants, so the city reads mostly as somewhere to eat, with three bakeries and pastry shops, the harbor and its lighthouse, and one beach that gets real attention: Seitan Limania, a turquoise cove on the Akrotiri peninsula reached by a steep 10 to 15 minute hike, with goats on the rocks and no facilities.

Dinner on the harbor

Most of the sit-down meals in the posts face the water. At Tamam Restaurant, in a former 15th-century public bath, one creator names it the favorite restaurant of their trip and insists on the zucchini fritters. Salis, on the Old Venetian Harbor and listed as expensive, gets an exact order: the homemade fries, the fish served tableside and the cucumber salad with basil and ginger. Arismari's shrimp saganaki is called a must, Canale serves its Cretan salad with rusks, and Neoria Fish Tavern near the Venetian shipyards brings complimentary desserts after the seafood. At Amphora, the creator came for the food and stayed for the view.

Cheap plates and sweets in the old lanes

Some of the cheapest food in the set is away from the waterfront. Patsas Agnos serves tripe soup, moussaka and pastitsio to a busy, chaotic crowd of walk-up and takeaway customers. Kafeneio Fix sits under plane trees on Splantzia (1821) Square and is called well priced in its post. Kaiti Mitraki Bakery on Selinou has hot spinach pies and kalitsounia that can sell out by early afternoon, and Tsalikis Seafood, further along Selinou in Nea Chora, is recommended for its dakos. Finish at Sketi Glyka near the Venetian Port, where a creator calls the salted caramel and pistachio heavenly.

The harbor walk

The Old Venetian Harbour dates to the 14th century and mixes Venetian, Greek and Ottoman buildings. Its 16th-century lighthouse, one of the oldest in the world according to its record, can be reached on foot from the old town and looks back over the harbor. One creator's tip is to walk out at sunset and keep an eye out for Harry, a well-known turtle in the harbor. Behind the waterfront, the old town has Firka Fortress, the Kasteli Hill archaeological site and narrow alleys, which is where Taverna Ela earns praise for its alleyway setting and friendly service.

Good to know

Early. Creators say the line gets huge by 8 AM. The menu has only two items, so the usual advice is to order both, with a traditional frappe on the side. The cheese bougatsa uses Pichtogalo Chanion PDO cheese, there are dairy-free and vegan cream-filled versions, and you can watch the filo being stretched by hand.
