Shopping in Japan From TikTok: Tokyo Boutiques and Kyoto Finds

Most of these shops sell clothes. Creators walk through Japanese menswear on one floor of a Shinjuku station building, archive and vintage pieces in Kyoto, selvedge denim in Higashiyama and artisan-made shoes in Jingūmae. The other stops are broader: a 12-floor stationery store in Ginza, a perfume shop in a restored Kyoto townhouse, and Nishiki Market, the one food market here.

Tokyo has nine of the 15 places and Kyoto has six. Budgets vary a lot. Several shops are marked expensive, and the Louis Vuitton men's store in Miyashita Park is the only luxury listing, while the Shinjuku select shops and Kyoto boutiques such as COIL and lloomm are moderate. Two places, Nishiki Market and Le Labo, appear in two posts each; everything else comes from one.

Where creators go

  1. Nishiki MarketFood Market · Kyoto

A 400-meter covered arcade in downtown Kyoto with over 100 vendors, known as Kyoto's Kitchen and over 400 years old. Stalls specialize in duck, seafood, pickles and Japanese sweets. Two Kyoto guide posts include it, and the listing advises going on a weekday morning before 10:30 AM.

  2. Le Labo Kyoto MachiyaShop · Kyoto

The fragrance brand's Kyoto store occupies a restored machiya from 1879, with tatami rooms, a Japanese garden and a fragrance organ of essential oils. A cafe on site serves tea and vegan pastries, so it works as a rest stop as much as a shop. It appears in two posts, one a personal Japan guide and one about lantern-lit Kyoto streets. Expensive.

  3. Ginza ItoyaShop · Chuo

A stationery store on twelve floors in Ginza, recognizable by the giant red paper clip outside. You can have pens and notebooks customized, and the 12th floor has a restaurant using vegetables grown in the building. It suits anyone who wants a souvenir that is not food or clothing, at a moderate price level.

  4. KAWANOFashion Boutique · Shinjuku

A select shop near Shinjuku Station that has been selling designer clothes since 1950, across several floors of its own building. The creator behind a Shinjuku brands guide calls it a must for fashion-forward shoppers and names labels it carries: TAAKK, amok and ANREALAGE. It is marked expensive.

  5. Louis Vuitton Miyashita ParkShop · Jingūmae

The world's first dedicated Louis Vuitton men's flagship, in the MIYASHITA PARK complex in Shibuya. The creator's reason to visit is specific: this is the only store offering the limited Shibuya Hachiko stamp for LV passport holders, part of a post on the return of city stamps, with Tokyo offering two. The only luxury-priced place on this page.

  6. COILVintage Clothing Store · Kyoto

A small vintage clothing store in Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto, with a hand-picked selection, and the favorite of the creator who listed five Kyoto clothing stores. It opens daily from 1 PM to 8 PM, so plan it for the afternoon rather than first thing. Moderate prices make it the easier vintage stop compared with BLEND MARKET.

  7. MOMOTARO JEANS KYOTOShop · Kyoto

The Kyoto shop of the Okayama denim brand, in the Higashiyama district, focused on premium selvedge and raw denim jeans. It appears in a personal Japan guide next to Le Labo and Gentle Monster. Expensive, and focused squarely on jeans.

  8. Gentle Monster AoyamaShop · Tokyo

The South Korean eyewear brand's Tokyo flagship on Miyuki Dori in Minami-Aoyama, laid out more like a gallery than a shop. Three large face-shaped kinetic sculptures are the centerpiece. Staff offer professional fittings and simple repairs if you do buy. Expensive.

One floor of Lumine EST Shinjuku

The same Shinjuku brands guide that features KAWANO points to three select shops on the 5th floor of Lumine EST, directly connected to the JR Shinjuku Station East Exit. All three are moderate.

  • 417 EDIFICE: tailored jackets, knitwear and denim mixing American casual and Japanese tailoring. The creator calls it a starting point for everyday Japanese menswear without going full avant-garde.
  • STUDIOUS MENS: stocks only Japanese Tokyo-based labels, including a CULLNI booth.
  • URBAN RESEARCH iD: contemporary and vintage pieces, with tax-free shopping for overseas visitors. The creator rates it good for Japanese styling without being overly niche.

More Kyoto clothing stores

The post on Kyoto clothing stores argues that shopping in the city gets overlooked next to its sights. Besides COIL, it lists BLEND MARKET in Higashiyama for rare archive designer pieces, priced expensive, and lloomm in Shimogyo, a moderate boutique with trendy apparel for men and women.

Tokyo flagships for resale and shoes

KOMEHYO Shinjuku is the Kanto flagship of the resale chain, selling pre-owned luxury handbags, watches, jewelry and designer clothes across several floors, with appraisal and repair. In Jingūmae, Onitsuka Tiger OMOTESANDO NIPPON MADE carries only the premium NIPPON MADE line, leather shoes made by Japanese artisans, including models sold only in Japan.

Good to know

A Shinjuku brands guide sends people to KAWANO, a multi-floor select shop since 1950 carrying TAAKK, amok and ANREALAGE, and to the 5th floor of Lumine EST, where 417 EDIFICE, STUDIOUS MENS and URBAN RESEARCH iD sit together above the JR East Exit. KOMEHYO Shinjuku nearby covers pre-owned luxury.
