Paris Cafés From TikTok: Croissants, Hot Chocolate and Tea

Paris cafés in these posts mean pastry and tea more than espresso. Of the eight places, four are bakeries, three are tea houses, and one is the classic Café de Flore on Boulevard Saint-Germain. Many of the posts come from Japanese-language creators, and one list exists only to answer where to eat a real croissant. That list supplies three of the bakeries here, two of them with croissant prizes.

Prices are mostly moderate. La Maison d'Isabelle, a takeaway croissant shop on Boulevard Saint-Germain, is the cheap one, and Café de Flore is the expensive one. The places spread across the city: the 1st arrondissement for Angelina and Nina's, the 5th and 6th around Saint-Germain, the 7th for a tea shop on Rue du Bac, Batignolles in the 17th, and Maison Doucet out in the 12th.

Where creators go

  1. Café de FloreBrunch Cafe

Café de Flore on Boulevard Saint-Germain, open since 1887, is one of two places here with two posts. Its listing points to Sartre, de Beauvoir and the Prix de Flore literary award, and to the hot chocolate. A creator note says to order the onion soup or the croque monsieur. It is the one expensive café on this page.

  2. PleincoeurBakery Cafe

Pleincoeur on Rue des Batignolles is a bakery, pastry shop and chocolate maker with marble displays that make it look like a jewelry shop. Pastries sit under glass cloches: a kouign amann with apples, a laminated pastry with rice pudding, and a made-to-order ice cream bar in season. Ingredients come from Normandy. Two creators include it in their Paris lists.

  3. AngelinaTea House

Angelina on Rue de Rivoli is a Belle Époque tea house with mirrors, marble and carved wood. The two things to order are in the creator note: the Mont-Blanc, with chestnut cream, and the hot chocolate, called Chocolat l'Africain. It serves breakfast and brunch, does takeout, and is dog-friendly.

  4. La Maison d'IsabelleBakery Cafe

La Maison d'Isabelle on Boulevard Saint-Germain in the 5th won Best Butter Croissant in Paris in 2018. It is takeaway only, often with a queue of locals, and also known for pain au chocolat and kouign-amann. The cheapest place on this page, and it takes both cash and card.

  5. Maison DoucetBakery Cafe

Maison Doucet on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine in the 12th took first place for the best croissant in France in 2024, according to its listing. Expect to wait for fresh batches. The croissants are described as extremely flaky and light, which is the whole reason to make the trip east.

  6. Nina's ParisTea House

Nina's, on Rue Danielle Casanova near Place Vendôme, is a white and gold tea house with crystal chandeliers and a Marie-Antoinette theme. The signature tea uses ingredients from the Versailles gardens, and there is an apple cake. The creator points out that the tea tins are designed after the column in Place Vendôme.

  7. Conservatoire des HémisphèresTea House

Conservatoire des Hémisphères on Rue du Bac is a tea shop rather than a café: you go to choose tea to take home, with staff to guide you. The creator's reason to visit is the wrapping, free gift wrap with velvet ribbons and personalized labels, and the Anna Pavlova blend of black tea with raspberry, coconut and meringue.

  8. Le Boulanger de la TourBakery Cafe

Le Boulanger de la Tour on Rue du Cardinal Lemoine is the bakery offshoot of the Tour d'Argent restaurant. It bakes organic breads, including tourtes de meule, Scandinavian loaves and a sarment baguette with toasted cereals, plus seasonal pistachio and lemon tarts. It sits in the 5th, close to La Maison d'Isabelle.

A croissant run

Three bakeries here come from one creator's list of famous Paris croissant shops. Two are in the 5th and walkable from each other: La Maison d'Isabelle on Boulevard Saint-Germain and Le Boulanger de la Tour on Rue du Cardinal Lemoine. Maison Doucet is a separate trip to the 12th, and the one with the 2024 national prize.

Tea to drink or take home

Angelina and Nina's are both in the 1st arrondissement and both serve tea with cake at the table, Angelina with its Mont-Blanc, Nina's with apple cake. Conservatoire des Hémisphères in the 7th is for buying tea, and the creator who filmed it goes for the gift wrapping.

Good to know

This set has two prize winners. Maison Doucet in the 12th took first place for best croissant in France in 2024, and La Maison d'Isabelle in the 5th won Best Butter Croissant in Paris in 2018. Le Boulanger de la Tour, the Tour d'Argent bakery, comes from the same croissant list.
