Paris Sights From TikTok: Free Museums, Churches and the Eiffel Tower

Free entry is the thread through this Paris list. Four of the six places come from one Japanese-language post about art and architecture you can see in Paris without paying, written for people who would go broke touring museums. Saint-Sulpice, the BnF Richelieu library, Musée Carnavalet and the Petit Palais are all free, at least for their permanent collections.

The other two are about the Eiffel Tower, one up close and one from a distance. The tower itself is the only paid sight here, priced as expensive. Pont de Bir-Hakeim is a two-level steel bridge with Métro Line 6 running along the top, views of the tower, and a part in the film Inception. Église Saint-Sulpice is the most posted place in the set, with two videos.

Where creators go

  1. Église Saint-SulpiceChurch

Église Saint-Sulpice is a huge Catholic church in the 6th arrondissement with a grand organ, murals by Eugène Delacroix in the Chapel of the Holy Angels, and a historic gnomon with a brass meridian line. Admission is free. It appears in two posts, one about free art in Paris and one from a Paris shopping guide.

  2. Petit Palais, Musée des beaux-arts de la ville de ParisArt Museum

The Petit Palais on Avenue Winston Churchill is the city's fine arts museum, in a building from the 1900 Exposition Universelle with a garden courtyard at its center. The permanent collection, from antiquity to the early 20th century, is free. Temporary exhibitions open late on Fridays and Saturdays.

  3. Musée Carnavalet – Histoire de ParisHistory Museum

Musée Carnavalet on Rue de Sévigné in the Marais is the oldest museum in Paris and tells the city's history from prehistory to today, inside a Renaissance mansion. Recreated Parisian rooms from the 15th to 19th centuries are a highlight. The permanent collections are free, and the museum is fully accessible.

  4. Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF) RichelieuArchitectural Landmark

The BnF Richelieu site on Rue Vivienne is the historic home of France's national library, now renovated. The Salle Ovale reading room is the highlight, and the BnF Museum shows treasures like the Great Cameo of France, with temporary exhibitions in the Galerie Mansart and Galerie Pigott. It is free.

  5. Eiffel TowerArchitectural Landmark

The Eiffel Tower on the Champ de Mars was built for the 1889 World's Fair, and its observation decks give panoramic views over Paris. After dark it has a light display. It is the one paid sight on this page, priced as expensive, so the free museums here balance out the day.

  6. Pont de Bir-HakeimBridge

Pont de Bir-Hakeim crosses the Seine on two levels, cars below and Métro Line 6 above, with Art Deco sculptures and access to the Île aux Cygnes. It is known as a filming location for Inception, and it has panoramic views of the Eiffel Tower at no cost.

Free art across four arrondissements

The four free places from the Japanese post are spread out: Saint-Sulpice in the 6th, the BnF Richelieu on Rue Vivienne in the 2nd, Musée Carnavalet in the Marais in the 3rd, and the Petit Palais in the 8th. Saint-Sulpice is the only one on the Left Bank.

Good to know

In this set, the Petit Palais and Musée Carnavalet offer free access to their permanent collections, and the BnF Richelieu, with its Salle Ovale reading room and museum, is listed as free. Église Saint-Sulpice, with its Delacroix murals, is also free to enter.
